1st Quarter of 8th Grade

Just finished up the first quarter of 8th grade and it all went well. My new school is great and my friends are cool too. I passed all my tests so my report card should be nothing short of all A’s and a few B’s. My next swim meet is next weekend and I’m looking forward to it. Hurricane Sandy cancelled school for two days and swim practice too. I really hope that those who were hit hardest by the storm can recover. Plan to catch a movie this weekend and get caught up on some swim practice since we missed two days due to the storm.

2012 Lego Brickfair

This year while surfing the internet I found something very exciting. I had found out Brickfair the largest Lego convention in the US was going to be in Chantilly, Virginia a mere hour away from where I live. I had been wanting to go to this convention since I first heard about it when I was 10. So I went to my mom and asked to go to Brickfair. My mom said we couldn’t go to Brickfair, but at the last minute she realized we could go on Saturday, August 4th. So at approximately 1pm on Saturday we left for the convention. The first thing we noticed when we got there was the line. The line turned around several corners and contained over 300 people. After waiting for 45 minutes in the line we finally made it inside, and never had I seen such amazing Lego creations. Inside the convention there where war scenes, vehicles such as jeeps, castles, custom figures for sale and sculptures of birds and people. After seeing many of these things we left and went home. I did buy two custom figures from Brick Warrior and a t shirt, and I thanked my mom for such a good time and she said she enjoyed it as well! I hope I can attend next year too.

My 7th Grade Middle School Reflection

Now that the school year is over I can look back and think about some my accomplishments as a 7th grader. Some of the things I accomplished were winning my schools National History Day competition for the second year in a row and attending the county competition for the second time. I also managed to attend every book club meeting for the second year in a row (quite and accomplishment I think considering I was on swim team). This year marked the end of an era as my school went through a lot of changes, a name change from Cradlerock to Lake Elkhorn Middle and crazy grading scale change and much more. Luckily I had some teachers who helped me and my classmates excel with despite all the changes. Mr.Gatz our science teacher constantly showed us videos and did hands on labs to help us learn as well as relating lessons to personal experiences. I have had Mr. Gatz two years in a row for GT Science and he is the greatest. Our reading teacher Mrs.Crum made lessons fun and entertaining to help us learn reading strategies. Mrs. Crum is an awesome teacher and I was lucky to have her as a teacher. These two teachers helped me make it through all the changes at Lake Elkhorn. I don’t want to forget Mrs. Noonan who I had in 6th grade. She taught me a lot about research and without her I would never have been able to be so successful as a student. However, this fall I will be going to a different school that I think will be a better fit for me. I will miss teachers like Mr. Gatz, Mrs. Crum, and Mrs. Noonan but I’m confident that I will do well because they have taught me well. I will miss my friends during class time, but will see them afterschool in the neighborhood.

Instagram Photography

Instagram is and app for the iPhone that has peaked my interest in photography. This app allows you to post any of you pictures for others to look at on your Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Whether it’s a picture of your Lego collection or your new puppy Instagram lets you post it for people to “like” and/or “comment” on. Instagram also lets you share your pics with people on Facebook and Twitter. Also if your photo is liked enough it can make the popular list and be viewed by even more people. Other Instagram companion apps are Instapad, Instagallery, and Instamap which all are great on the iPad. Check out some of my Instagram photos on my Tumblr site here.

French Horn

Today I have made a key decision as far as my music career goes. I have decided to switch from trumpet to French Horn. I made this decision because I like the warm mellow tone it has better than the trumpet. Don’t get me wrong, I still like the sound of the trumpet because it’s just a cool sound and I still plan to play it once in awhile. I just want to give the French Horn a try. Another reason is in many cases French Horns are the most important part in most symphonies. Most people don’t know that I enjoy classical and symphony music but I do. I have been thinking about switching for some time now, but when I found out a number of the songs in Star Wars, Harry Potter and Home Alone were played by French Horns and not trumpets that pretty much ended the argument between which I should play. My mom still has her jaw on the floor because this is an expensive instrument. I’m hoping my school has one I can borrow to use for the remainder of the year. If the school doesn’t have one I’m not sure my mom will be running to the store to pick out a French horn.

Happy New Year! With the marking of a new year I have come up with many goals. One of these goals is to be even more active on my website. Another goal is to start my own literary magazine in the coming months. I’ll also be bringing you updates on my swimming. This along with many other things is what I have planed for my website this year. For now Happy New Year!

Boy Scout Summer Camp 2011

I went to summer camp with my Boy Scout troop for a week earlier this summer. I earned four merit badges during this time. One of those badges was for swimming, which I really wanted to get since I wasn’t a very good swimmer. Getting this badge has led me to the sport of swimming and I now swim for a team and will be swimming year round. Maybe next year I will give the mile swim a try. The food was also very good for camp food. I also spent a lot of time with my scouting friends. But the thing that made camp Ocanickon worth it was the counselors. They always believed in you even when you didn’t believe in yourself. Overall it was the best week of my entire summer. Thanks to my troop and my camp counselor Mark Ficalora who I won’t forget. I love scouting and every boy should at least try it.

I love robots! My dream robot is the Nao which costs so much I’ll have to become an adult and get a job to buy one of these.

I’d just like to reflect on 2010 and share my hopes for the new year. 2010 was a great year for me. My favorite moment was my 5th grade graduation because it was the ending of one phase of my life and the beginning of a new one. I also got an iPad this year and I really like using this awesome piece of technology. I learn something new each day using it. I have gone from Kindergarten to 5th grade in this decade. In the next decade I will go through middle school, high school and even enter college one day. One thing I’d like to see in 2011 is politicians working together because people depend on it and all the fighting doesn’t get anything done. I also hope the economy gets better because people are losing their homes and jobs. Another thing I’d like to see is soldiers home with their families from the war because they need a break and some time to live their lives with family and friends. Well that’s all from me for now. Look forward to some new posts in 2011 and I wish you a Happy New Year!
